Fadogia Agrestis is an African herb that shows a lot of potential as a testosterone booster in humans. Currently, only studies exist in rodents, where it showed a remarkable increase in testosterone [study].
The mechanism of action of this herb seems to be threefold, namely:
- Increase of Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
- Increase of sensitivity to LH in the Leydig cells
- Increased production or activity of enzymes in the pathways that convert cholesterol to testosterone.
A warning with this herb is warranted however. Studies in rodents also showed potential damage to the testicles, kidney, and liver as a result of Fadogia supplementation.
After close inspection of the data, this is likely due to excessively high dosages for a too long period of time. Still, caution is warranted.
Hormone experts such as Dr. Kyle Gillett do still use and recommend this product, since it seems that there is no damage if the dosage taken is sufficiently low, and if usage is cycled.
